A Missouri man arrested for wife’s murder after she was found dead with his last name written in blood on her leg.
On Friday, 31-year-old John Wonder was arrested after his wife was found dead with his last name written on her leg in blood and texts show him describing the murder as “satisfying” and “easy”.
The father of two faces first degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing and strangling his wife, 29-year-old Ashli Ehrhardt, inside their home on September 22nd.
According to a probable cause statement, the couple was in the midst of a divorce battle and the victim was planning to move out in a few days.
Text messages sent by the suspect moments after the stabbing reveal his disturbing mindset. In one message to his sister, he wrote, “It’s way easier and much more satisfying than you can imagine. See you around.”
“Hey kiddo. Sorry about the mess,” Wonder allegedly wrote. “It’s way easier and much more satisfying than you can imagine. See you around.”
Reports state that both Wonder and his wife worked at the same company. When they didn’t show up for work, their supervisor requested a welfare check.
Ehrhardt’s parents went to the couple’s residence with responding officers and Wonder’s mother. According to the statement, Ehrhardt’s mother informed the officers that Wonder had dropped off their two children at her home but left them on the front porch instead of bringing them inside, as he usually did.
While police stood outside, Ehrhardt’s father discovered her dead in the downstairs laundry room. She was naked from the waist down, with a belt wrapped around her neck, and had multiple puncture wounds on her left side. The word “Wonder” was scrawled in blood on her leg, and a large butcher knife was found next to her body.
Wonder’s sister provided police with screenshots of a text conversation in which he described the murder as easy and satisfying. Another acquaintance also shared a troubling message indicating that Wonder was traveling north to Fargo.
“Still haven’t cried. Still feel nothing. No more anxiety, though. That’s a plus,” he allegedly texted. “I’m in the car. I have no doubt I will be caught today. I keep thinking about how she never screamed. Just took it like a champ. What a gal, to honor her. I will not go out by a gunshot (suicide by cop) but by, hopefully a similar fate as Ashli.”
According to Wonder’s mother, the couple had been married since October 2019 but decided to split after meeting with a marriage counselor last year. Ehrhardt planned to leave on October 1st.
Wonder was detained by Nebraska state police while traveling westbound and is now facing charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal conduct. He is currently held on a $1 million bond.

What actions can society take to create a safe environment for victims of domestic violence to seek help
D criminal action. He is currently being held without bond and is awaiting extradition to Missouri.
This horrific incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence. Every year, countless individuals suffer abuse at the hands of their partners, and far too often, it ends in tragedy. Domestic violence affects people from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status. It is a widespread issue that demands our attention and action.
In this case, the signs of a troubled relationship were evident. The couple was in the midst of a contentious divorce, indicating a breakdown of their marriage. While divorce can be a difficult and emotional process, it should never escalate to violent behavior. It is crucial for individuals in troubled relationships to seek help and support from professionals, friends, and family members.
The text messages sent by John Wonder are deeply disturbing. They reveal a callous and remorseless attitude towards the murder of his wife. It is chilling to think that someone could harm another person in such a brutal manner and then describe it as satisfying. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing the warning signs of potential violence and taking them seriously.
Law enforcement and judicial systems play a critical role in addressing cases of domestic violence. It is essential for authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to reports of abuse. In this particular case, the couple’s supervisor played a crucial role by requesting a welfare check when they did not show up for work. This action led to the discovery of the crime and the subsequent arrest of John Wonder.
Moreover, it is imperative that society as a whole takes a stand against domestic violence. We must create an environment where victims feel safe to come forward and seek help without fear of judgment or retaliation. This means providing resources and support systems for survivors, educating the public about the signs of abuse, and holding abusers accountable for their actions.
In memory of Ashli Ehrhardt and all victims of domestic violence, let us work together to eradicate this pervasive issue from our society. May their tragic stories serve as a stark reminder of the urgency and importance of addressing domestic violence and fostering healthy, respectful relationships.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out to local authorities or organizations dedicated to assisting survivors. There are resources available to help you escape abusive situations and begin the healing process. Remember, you are not alone, and there is support available.
