Man charged for 2018 shooting of Mass. police officer

A Massachusetts jury found a man guilty of second-degree murder in the 2018 shooting of a Cape Cod police officer. 32-year-old Thomas Latanowich was charged with the murder of Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon on Friday after three days of deliberation by the jury.
Gannon was fatally shot in 2018 while serving a warrant for possible parole violations at Latanowich’s home. Gannon’s K-9 Nero was also shot, but remained survived from his injury.
Latanowich’s defense previously argued he had not known Gannon was a police officer and was acting in self defense. The defense lawyer added Latanowich was fearful of his life as the officers were acting out of aggression.

The killer now faces a 25-year prison sentence, which includes the murder charge and a slew of lesser charges.
