Police in New Jersey say a man intentionally drove into a home and crashed into a police station.
Man Deliberately Crashes SUV into Home and Police Station
Last week, a shocking incident occurred in Independence Township, New Jersey. A man intentionally drove his SUV into a residential home and the offices of a municipal police department, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crashes that took place on September 20, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspect, identified as John Hargreaves, 34, from Belvidere, narrowly missed hitting an officer as he crashed into the Independence Township police headquarters. Astonishingly, after the collision, Hargreaves stepped out of his vehicle, raised his hands in the air, and seemed to celebrate while blasting Guns N’ Roses’ iconic song “Welcome to the Jungle” on his car stereo. Officers swiftly apprehended him.
Interestingly, the police station crash occurred just minutes after Hargreaves targeted a home in Liberty Township by crashing into its garage door. Prosecutors believe this act was meant to harass the homeowner, who is acquainted with Hargreaves. He then drove to the Independence police station, as it was the closest location to the targeted home.
Hargreaves now faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief, and a weapons count for both crashes. Additionally, he is charged with terrorism, aggravated assault, and causing widespread injury or damage due to the police station crash.
Authorities have not revealed a motive for these disturbing incidents. As of Friday, Hargreaves remains in custody. It is unclear whether he has obtained legal representation, and attempts to reach his previous attorney for comment were unsuccessful. Contact information for Hargreaves could not be found.
What charges is Hargreaves facing after his reckless rampage in Independence Township?
