LOS ANGELES—In a dramatic turn of events, a man in his 30s, who was shot by Los Angeles police before barricading himself for several hours at a building in Koreatown, has finally been taken into custody, authorities announced on Aug. 13.
It all began when officers responded to reports of a man with a rifle near Kenmore Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles police.
As they tried to make contact with the man, one of the officers opened fire, striking him, the Los Angeles Police Department revealed on X.

“The suspect ran from the officers and a second [police shooting] occurred,” authorities wrote. “He then barricaded himself behind the stairwell of a building near the intersection of 7th Street and Vermont Avenue.”
A SWAT team swiftly responded to the scene and made attempts to coax the suspect out from behind the stairwell, according to the police.
“SWAT utilized a remote controlled tracked vehicle to assess the suspect’s condition and attempted to retrieve the suspect’s firearms,” department officials said. “The tracked vehicle’s arms were unable to retrieve the weapons.”
Undeterred, the SWAT officers deployed another type of controlled vehicle that successfully removed the man’s firearms. This breakthrough allowed officers to approach the suspect and provide the necessary medical treatment, the police department explained.
Finally, shortly before 3 a.m., the man was taken into custody and promptly transported to a hospital in stable condition, police confirmed.
Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, and the case remains under investigation.
