Man wielding baseball bat attacks Rep. Connolly’s staffers at office, sent to hospital with injuries.
Breaking News: Congressman’s Staffers Attacked with Baseball Bat
Two staffers for Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) were viciously attacked at his district office on Monday by a man wielding a metal baseball bat. According to the representative, the attacker entered the office and asked for him before committing the violent act.
Connolly, 73, expressed his concern for his injured staffers, a senior aide and an intern on her first day. The aide was struck in the head, and the intern was hit on the side. Both were transferred to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Connolly praised first responders for their promptness.
Unconscionable and Devastating
“The thought that someone would take advantage of my staff’s accessibility to commit an act of violence is unconscionable and devastating,” Connolly said. “I have the best team in Congress. My District Office staff make themselves available to constituents and members of the public every day.”
Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) tweeted his support for the injured staffers and condemned the act of violence. “Intimidation and violence – especially against public servants – has no place in our society,” he wrote.
