Manchin: U.S. Too Divided, People Feel Politically Homeless

Sen. Joe Manchin: United States “Not ‍Designed” for Division

In a⁣ recent interview,⁤ Sen. Joe Manchin⁢ (D-WV) expressed his belief that the United States was “not designed” for ⁢the level of division currently seen within the country. He argued that this division⁣ has left many “common-sense” Americans without‍ a political home.

During an appearance on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable” talk show, Manchin discussed his openness to a ⁤third-party run for president in 2024. He pointed out that the problem lies with the political parties ⁢in Washington, D.C., rather ⁢than average citizens.

“The political‍ parties have become so extreme — going to⁣ the extreme ‌left ⁤and extreme right — ‍that the average common-sense people don’t have a home,” Manchin told host ‌John Catsimatidis.

“They’ve been left politically homeless.”

Manchin’s comments were prompted by his recent appearance at a No Labels forum in New ⁤Hampshire, where he did not rule out a potential run for president. He emphasized that the purpose of the group‌ is “to make sure the American‌ people have an option.”

During the interview, Manchin⁢ reiterated his belief that the United States‌ was “not designed to be this divided.” He placed the blame on the political parties in Washington, stating:

“The people of America aren’t divided. The people in New York aren’t divided, or‌ in West Virginia. It’s ⁤basically the political parties in Washington with their business model ‍that they get better ⁢returns ⁢and their business does‌ much better when you’re fighting and dividing each other versus uniting each other.”

As a former governor of West‌ Virginia, Manchin argued that Washington is tainted by party division and expressed his comfort in occupying the ⁢middle ground.

He emphasized the⁣ need for another choice beyond the extreme left and right, stating:

“You ⁢should have another choice to ‍where⁣ it makes them understand and realize they might not be in the majority — even though they think they ⁣are — they might⁤ not be.”

While Manchin has yet to announce his plans for⁤ re-election, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, ‌a⁣ Republican, has already launched a campaign for⁢ Manchin’s Senate seat. Some Democrats ⁢are concerned that a third-party run from Manchin could potentially ⁢draw votes away from President Joe⁣ Biden,‌ impacting their preferred candidate’s chances of keeping the White House.

At the No Labels forum, Manchin expressed his determination to “save ⁤the nation” and assured attendees that if ⁣he enters a⁣ race, he intends to win.
