Manhattan DA Office Responds: Trump Created ‘False Expectation’ He Would Be Arrested

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, responded to House Republicans who were looking into his alleged case against former President Donald Trump by providing the initial public reaction to the former mayor’s assertion that he would soon be indicted by his office.

In contrast,” your letter dated March 20, 2023( the” Letter”) is an[ unprecedented ] investigation into a pending local prosecution ,” Bragg’s office wrote to House Judiciary Republicans in the letter, which was made public online by numerous news sources. The letter, according to the GOP,” just came after Donald Trump falsely anticipated being arrested the following weekend, and his attorneys apparently urged you to act.” Both facts are not a valid foundation for legislative investigation.

The GOP letter claims that complying with the request would” interfere with law enforcement” and that it constitutes an” unlawful incursion into New York’s sovereignty.” Leslie B. Dubeck, Bragg’s public lawyers, wrote it on March 23.

After the former president announced next trip that he would be indicted on Tuesday, the letter represents Bragg’s first public remarks about the investigation into Trump. However, Tuesday passed without any charges being brought against him. Epoch Times requests for comment to Bragg’s work have not yet received a response.

Meanwhile, the letter offered little input into the case or whether Trump will face an accusation from the grand jury. In recent days, the grand jurors heard testimony from a number of witnesses, including former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and associate attorney Robert Castello, which sparked additional rumors about the situation.

According to the information, the DA’s Office will be required, as in every instance, to give the accused a sizable amount of revelation from its files so that he can put together his defence if the grand jurors brings charges against Donald Trump. The House Republican claims that his work is” pursuing a trial for political reasons is false, and no, the Courts of New York, which are equipped to carry and discuss such concerns ,” are the appropriate venue for such an appeal.

To the point that any criminal case raises national matters, review by the U. S. Supreme Court would also be around. Every accused in a legal case has access to that instrument. According to the letter, Congress has no business participating in that survey, particularly in light of a pending state criminal investigation.

The recent Republican request would jeopardize the state of New York’s” sovereign interest” because Congress doesn’t have a” legitimate legislative task relating to the oversight of local prosecutors” and state laws, according to Bragg.

What Was Required

Early this week, House Republicans under the leadership of Jim Jordan( R-Ohio ), James Comer, Oversight, and Bryan Steil, R-Wis., asked for details and testified about Bragg’s investigation and said it was likely motivated by politics. They claimed that Bragg’s office generally reduced criminal charges for violent criminals in New York City, but that he is reportedly looking to increase costs against Trump in light of a 2016 incident.

Jordan wrote to the district attorney’s office,” Your decision to pursue such a politically motivated prosecution— while adopting progressive criminal justice policies that allow career” criminals” to[ run the streets ] of Manhattan — requires congressional scrutiny about how public safety funds appropriated by Congress are implemented by local law-enforcement agencies.

Republicans in Congress have gathered around the former president since Trump’s post on Truth Social announced he would make arrested quickly, accusing Bragg and Democrats of participating in a politically motivated witch hunt. Additionally, some legal experts have criticized Bragg’s way and asserted that it is a twisted interpretation of the law.

Over the past weekend, Trump’s spokesperson told The Epoch Times that he hasn’t learned anything new about a potential indictment and that the former president may have been reacting to private reports that were made public. Last Friday, a so-called” court source” informed numerous news outlets that Trump might quickly be charged in connection with the situation, which examines alleged hush cash payments made to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign.

Trump’s arrest would be the first for either a current or former leader. No president of the United States has faced legal costs since the country’s foundation.

In the meantime, the former president has stated that if indicted, he will continue his 2024 White House system. Later this month, a exchange will take place in Waco, Texas.

For reply, The Epoch Times has gotten in touch with Bragg’s work and a Trump spokesman.
