Marjorie Taylor Greene claims gun control ‘leads to more killings’.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Defends Relaxed Gun Control Laws, Claims Strict Laws Lead to More Murder
During a recent hearing at the Okaloosa County administrative complex in Florida, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) passionately defended her stance on relaxed gun control laws, arguing that “strict gun laws actually create murder.”
“To carry a gun in Chicago you need a firearm owner ID and a concealed carry license, which are difficult to get,” Greene stated. “Most gun thefts occur in Southern states — Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina.”
Greene highlighted the recent shootings in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend, where 11 people lost their lives and over 50 were injured from gunshot wounds. She criticized Democrats for failing to address or report on these specific incidents.
AR-15: A Controversial Choice
Known for her support of AR-15-style rifles, which have been involved in numerous mass shootings, Greene expressed her admiration for the weapon during the hearing.
“I’m a big fan of the AR-15. The great thing about it is that you get as many bullets as you want,” Greene proclaimed, causing a stir among the crowd.
She emphasized the rifle’s effectiveness for home defense, stating, “You can have as many bullets as you need to defend yourself.”
The National Rifle Association, a staunch supporter of Greene, considers the AR-15 to be “the most popular semi-automatic firearm,” endorsing it for home protection, defensive training, and marksmanship competitions.
Pushing for ATF Abolishment
Joining Greene in the hearing was Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and other members of Congress. They focused on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and its alleged “weaponization and heightened targeting of Federal Firearms Licenses.”
According to a press release from Gaetz, the ATF’s actions are a direct result of President Joe Biden’s Zero Tolerance Policy.
It’s worth noting that both Greene and Gaetz have previously introduced legislation aimed at abolishing the ATF, citing violations of the Second Amendment. Gaetz even introduced the “Abolish the ATF Act” in the House earlier this year.
