In a tweet on July 6, Mr. Levin expressed his disappointment, stating that Target had informed his publisher, Simon & Schuster, that they would not carry his book upon its release on September 19. The Controversial Book

Of course, there were those who supported Target’s decision to ban the book. Ryan Grim, the Washington, D.C., bureau chief at news outlet The Intercept, tweeted, “Can’t imagine why they didn’t want this screaming at their shoppers. Really unfair, man.” James Surowiecki, author of “The Wisdom of Crowds,” echoed a similar sentiment, stating, “Not surprising Target isn’t interested in selling a book the title of which slurs a huge chunk of its customer base.”
However, many people came to Mr. Levin’s defense and criticized Target for censoring his book. Former National Security advisor Mike Flynn tweeted, “Let’s give @marklevinshow a big lift here. I’ve read every book he’s written and listen to his show routinely. This is simply another form of censorship. #WeThePeople are going to stand our ground and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!” Brent Bozell, founder of Media Research Center, also chimed in, saying, “Target reminding conservatives not to shop there, in case tuck-friendly swimsuits and chest-binders for Pride Month weren’t enough.”
Boycotting Target
This isn’t the first time Target has faced backlash. Earlier this year, the retail chain received boycott calls after launching its Pride collection in May. Some of the offerings, particularly those aimed at children, sparked controversy.
For instance, Target introduced books with titles like “Pride 1,2,3,” “Bye Bye, Binary,” and “I’m Not a Girl” for kids aged 2–8. They even suggested “The Pronoun Book” for kids aged 0–3. In the home décor section, Target offered mugs labeled “Gender Fluid” and even had transgender swimsuits for adults with a “tuck-friendly” feature. These choices didn’t sit well with everyone.
