Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), a self-proclaimed “proud dog dad,” sparked a wave of reactions on social media after posting a video in which he talked to his dog, Coda, about the “crazy Donald Trump tariffs.”
“It was so hard last night,” Warner said to his dog in the video posted to X. “This crazy Donald Trump, you know, he’s also going to put a tariff on dogs!”
He continued, jokingly suggesting that non-American dogs might face deportation: “If you’re not a full-bred American dog, you won’t even be able to be here.”

“We can get through this, but we gotta work together, right?” Warner added before reassuring his pet, “So just remember, we are pro-dog and you know what? We’re even for French poodles.”
The video quickly gained attention, with many netizens responding with snarky remarks.
“This is the lamest thing I’ve seen yet,” one person said.
“What a goofball!” another user wrote.
“Bad theatre!” a third person commented.
One user quipped, “I just asked my two German Shepherds how they felt about the tariffs, and they wagged their tails because they are happy about it.”
Warner’s dog videos were not a one-off. Just the previous night, he posted another video featuring his other dog, Clemmie.

In that video, Warner vented his frustrations with Republicans while referencing a mishap where national security adviser Mike Waltz accidentally added Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal chat intended for national security purposes.
As his dog chewed on a toy, Warner joked, “I’d like to chew on some Republicans as well!”
