Marvel actress voices opinion on movement to reduce masculinity in men and femininity in women.
Actress Evangeline Lilly Speaks Out Against Double Standards in Hollywood
Push to Make Men Less Masculine and Women Less Feminine
Marvel actress Evangeline Lilly has taken to Instagram to speak out against what she sees as a double standard in Hollywood. The 43-year-old accuses the industry of pushing a narrative that vilifies masculine men while applauding women who exhibit the same traits. She also questions why femininity is celebrated in men but debased in women.
- Lilly asks, “Why do we feel the need to vilify a man wearing s***-kicker boots, driving a pick-up truck who’s not afraid to punch someone in the face, but if they were a woman, they would be the epitome of cool?”
- She also questions why a man who loves make-up, cries easily, and stays at home to tend to domestic responsibilities is considered valiant, while a woman who does the same is seen as pathetic.
Lilly believes it’s time to return to the old rule of “Do not judge…Let each be who they are and let us teach grace and charity above all things.” She concludes that grace and charity are cornerstones of a thriving society and should not be abandoned.
The actress made headlines earlier this year after protesting against vaccine mandates in her home country of Canada. She says both Disney and Marvel supported her and that she received a supportive phone call from Marvel director Peyton Reed.
It’s time to end the double standards and embrace individuality. Let’s celebrate all traits, regardless of gender, and teach grace and charity above all else.
