Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz Calls for Special Prosecutor Jack Smith to Face Tough Questions
In a bold move, Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is demanding answers from special prosecutor Jack Smith.
Gaetz, who has been vocal about defunding Smith’s funding, expressed his frustration as former President Donald Trump faced a second indictment from Smith.
Previously charged with mishandling classified documents, Trump is now facing conspiracy charges related to his efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election.
In an interview with Newsmax, Gaetz stated, “House Republicans should immediately demand that Jack Smith present himself for a transcribed interview with the Judiciary Committee in the next 15 days.”
If Smith fails to comply, Gaetz proposes issuing a subpoena and holding him in criminal contempt of Congress, making him the first prosecutor in American history to prosecute a case while under criminal contempt.
Not stopping there, Gaetz also expressed his willingness to take on Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“If Merrick Garland doesn’t enforce that contempt, then we ought to impeach Merrick Garland,” Gaetz boldly declared.

Highlighting the political nature of the situation, Gaetz suggested using congressional immunities to immunize President Trump.
He referenced sections that give Congress the power to subpoena and partially immunize witnesses, stating, “This is all an effort to try to distract us from the very real crimes committed by Hunter and Joe Biden.”

Gaetz emphasized the need to protect Congress’s interests in preventing election interference and misuse of the DOJ.
He criticized the timing of Joe Biden’s beach visit and the indictment, suggesting a connection to their former business partner’s statement about Biden’s involvement in international influence peddling.

Joining Gaetz in his efforts, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia expressed her willingness to invoke the Holman rule to stop Smith.
This rule allows lawmakers to target specific line items, such as an individual’s salary, and reduce them.
