Matthew Perry Will Remove Keanu Reeves’ Name From His Memoir: ‘I Said A Stupid Thing’
Matthew Perry has publicly apologized for using Keanu Reeves’ name in a derogatory way in his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”
At the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Perry expressed regret for his actions and promised to remove Reeves’ name from any future editions of the book. “I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do,” he said. “If I run into the guy, I’ll apologize. It was just stupid.”
Perry had previously used Reeves’ name in a section of the book where he discussed the untimely deaths of talented actors like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger. He wrote, “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”
Aside from the controversy surrounding his memoir, Perry also opened up about his struggles with addiction. He revealed that he spent over $9 million on his journey to sobriety and even had to wear a colostomy bag while recovering from a perforated colon. “There is a hell,” he wrote in the book. “Don’t let anyone tell you different. I’ve been there; it exists; end of discussion.”
Despite the challenges he faced, Perry has come out on the other side and is now using his platform to raise awareness about addiction and mental health. His story serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult life may seem, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
