Gov. Josh Green Provides Update on Missing Persons in Maui
Exciting news coming out of Maui! Gov. Josh Green (D-HI) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update on the number of missing persons in the area. And guess what? The numbers are much lower than initially anticipated!
The Maui Police Department has been investigating 41 cases of missing people, and after thorough verification, the number of confirmed missing persons stands at 66. This is a significant decrease from the earlier estimate.
Long-Term Solution Promised for Those Displaced by Wildfires
It has been one month since the devastating wildfires began on the island, leaving over 7,000 people without homes. However, Gov. Green has promised a long-term solution to provide housing for the next 18 months. In the meantime, over 15,000 FEMA applications have been sent from Maui, showing the resilience and determination of the community.
“Thank you all for hanging in there,” expressed Gov. Green in a heartfelt video message. “Our hearts go out to those who are lost, but we are committed to rebuilding and reopening.”
Efforts to Identify Victims and Seek Help from Locals
Maui’s death toll currently stands at 115, with 40 victims identified so far. The county is actively seeking assistance from locals to confirm the identities of those still missing. Together, the community is working tirelessly to bring closure to affected families.
Updates on Fire Containment
On the fire front, there is some positive news. The Lahaina fire is now 100% contained, the Kula fire is at 95% containment, and the Olinda fire remains at 90% containment. While over 3,000 acres have been burned due to the multiple fires, two of them have been completely extinguished.
