Maxine Waters suggests ‘we don’t know’ scope of Musk’s influence over election
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said she was “investigating” Elon Musk for interfering in the 2024 election.
It’s been four months since President Donald Trump won 312 electoral votes and the popular vote. Since 2001, the Democratic Party has only lost the popular vote twice: once this most recent cycle and another time in 2004. Meanwhile, former Vice President Kamala Harris outperformed her predecessor, former President Joe Biden, in only 58 counties and lost every swing state.
Waters has taken on a public crusade against Musk for his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency.
“And we don’t know everything that Elon Musk has done, with his high technology ass,” Waters said during a video stream that aired simultaneously with Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday. “We don’t know what he’s been accused of by some as it may relate to the election, but we’re not going to give up in investigating and finding out.”
Ahead of the election, Musk created a petition for swing state voters and offered $47 for every referral that resulted in a signature via his pro-Trump super PAC, which was called the America PAC. Previously, it also hired canvassers in these swing states. Signers of the petition pledged their support for the First and Second amendments, which have been Musk’s cited reasons for endorsing Trump. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Musk said this November would be “the most important election in our lifetime.”

Musk was onstage with Trump during his Pennsylvania rally when he returned to Butler following the July 13 assassination attempt, which prompted Musk’s public endorsement.
Allegations against Musk of election interference remain to be seen. Waters has long protested against Musk’s involvement in the administration with a demonstration outside the Education and Housing and Urban Development departments.
