Republicans have the potential to assume control of all House committees. However, with the Senate under Democrat control and President Joe Biden at the White House, it is possible that they will not be able pass any meaningful legislation. A Republican steering committee has assigned chairmanships, with several of the House’s more conservative members landing key roles.
Missouri Rep. Jason Smith is the House Ways and Means Committee chair. Tennessee Rep. Mark Green is the Homeland Security Committee Chair; Texas Rep. Jodey Adrrington will be the Budget Committee Chair. It is also expected that Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan will chair the Judiciary Committee. Jordan and Green have both previously stated that they are members of the House Freedom Caucus. This conservative group of 35-40 Republicans does not disclose its membership.
