McCarthy predicts GOP’s nominee for White House.
House Speaker Predicts Trump as Republican Nominee for 2024 Presidential Race
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) made a bold prediction in a recent interview, stating that it won’t be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis who becomes the Republican Party’s nominee for the presidential race. Instead, McCarthy believes that President Donald Trump will likely be the party’s choice for 2024.
In primary polls, President Trump is far ahead of Mr. DeSantis and other GOP candidates, despite facing four indictments. McCarthy emphasized Trump’s strength, stating, “President Trump is stronger today than he was in 2016 or 2020, and there’s a reason why. They saw the policies of what he was able to do with America, putting America first, making our economy stronger. We didn’t have inflation. We didn’t have these battles around the world. We didn’t look weak around the world.”
After announcing a bid for the White House in May, Mr. DeSantis has failed to gain much momentum. As of Sunday, a RealClearPolitics average of polls shows President Trump has 56.6 percent support, compared to Mr. DeSantis’ 12.7 percent support.
A recent poll from Quinnipiac University revealed that President Trump has a significant lead over Mr. DeSantis, with 62 percent to 12 percent support, respectively. Other presidential candidates are trailing far behind in single digits.
McCarthy emphasized the difference between DeSantis and Trump, stating, “I served with Ron DeSantis, he’s not at the same level as President Trump by any shape or form. He would not have gotten elected without President Trump’s endorsement.”
In the interview, McCarthy also addressed the possibility of a government shutdown, expressing his desire to achieve something rather than resorting to a shutdown that would give strength to the Democrats.
Recent Statements
On Sunday, NBC News’ “Meet the Press” aired an interview with President Trump, where he asserted that he made up his own mind about the 2020 election being “rigged.”
President Trump explained his dismissal of the views of lawyers in the White House and his campaign, stating, “Because I didn’t respect them.” He specifically mentioned former U.S. Attorney General William Barr, whom he believed did not do his job due to fear.
Regarding the criminal indictments he faces, President Trump expressed his lack of concern about prison time, stating, “I don’t even think about it. I truly feel that, in the end, we’re going to win.”
As for Mr. DeSantis, he has been focusing on his policies implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, opposing mask mandates and lockdown orders. He firmly stated, “No, we are not letting you get away with it again.”
Furthermore, Mr. DeSantis strongly criticized the latest COVID-19 booster shot recommended by the CDC and approved by the FDA, stating that he won’t let healthy Floridians be used as guinea pigs.

What factors have contributed to Donald Trump’s enduring popularity within the Republican Party?
The same level. He’s a good governor, but he doesn’t have the same connection with the people as Trump does. Trump has a huge following, and I think he will be the nominee.”
Trump’s Influence and Popularity
It is no secret that Donald Trump has a strong and dedicated base of supporters. Throughout his presidency, he cultivated a unique connection with his followers, who were drawn to his populist rhetoric and promises to prioritize the interests of the American people.
Despite facing multiple indictments and controversies, Trump remains a formidable force within the Republican Party. His policies and actions, such as tax cuts, deregulation, and a tough stance on immigration, have resonated with many conservatives. Supporters credit Trump with a strong economy and assert that he stood up for American interests on the global stage.
These factors have contributed to Trump’s enduring popularity within the party. His strong performance in primary polls reflects the support he continues to enjoy among Republican voters. This widespread support has also translated into significant fundraising capabilities, further solidifying his position as a front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination.
DeSantis’ Challenges
While Ron DeSantis has gained attention as the governor of Florida and earned praise from conservatives for his policies, he has yet to capture the same level of national recognition and support as Trump.
DeSantis’ relatively low polling numbers compared to Trump indicate that he faces challenges in expanding his appeal beyond his home state. Unlike Trump, who had a high-profile career in business and entertainment prior to entering politics, DeSantis lacks the same level of name recognition and charisma.
Furthermore, DeSantis may also struggle to differentiate himself from Trump ideologically. Many of Trump’s key policy positions, such as his tough stance on immigration and trade, align with mainstream conservative values. This makes it difficult for DeSantis to present himself as a fresh alternative to Trump, as he would have to navigate the delicate task of appealing to Trump’s base while also establishing his own unique platform.
The Road Ahead
While McCarthy’s prediction of Trump as the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential race may elicit mixed reactions, it is clear that Trump continues to wield significant influence within the party. His policies and populist appeal resonate with many conservative voters, making him a formidable contender.
However, the field is not yet set, and it is crucial to remember that politics can be unpredictable. As the 2024 race approaches, other contenders may emerge, and unforeseen events can reshape the political landscape. It remains to be seen whether Trump’s dominance within the party will endure or if new challengers will rise to the forefront.
Ultimately, the decision of the Republican Party and its supporters will determine who becomes their nominee for the 2024 presidential race. The upcoming primary season will be a crucial battleground that will test the candidates’ appeal and policy platforms.
Until then, all eyes will be on Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis as they continue to navigate the complex world of American politics, each striving to secure their place as the Republican standard-bearer in the 2024 presidential race.
