McCarthy pressured by firearms group to cancel fundraiser for ‘anti-gun’ Republican

A Second Amendment advocacy group is asking House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R–CA) to end his financial support for Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, (R–PA). The group argues that the Republican leader shouldn’t funnel money to legislators who have backed Fitzpatrick. “anti-gun” legislation.

Fitzpatrick was among five Republicans who broke with the majority of GOP to vote with Democrats in June to approve gun control legislation. It slashed the sale of semiautomatic firearms to people under 21 years old and created stricter regulations for ghost guns that don’t have serial numbers.

NRA supported a new bill to codify key Second Amendment decisions of the Supreme Court during the past three decades. It was also supported by Republicans on Senate Judiciary Committee. The Respect for the Second Amendment Act was opposed by the Gun Owners of America, however.
