McCarthy vows impeachment if Garland is proven to have lied.
House Speaker McCarthy Threatens Impeachment Proceedings Against Attorney General Garland
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has made a bold statement, declaring that he will initiate impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland if it is discovered that he has lied to Congress. This announcement comes ahead of Garland’s scheduled appearance before the House Judiciary Committee on September 20th, where he will face intense questioning regarding the Justice Department’s handling of investigations involving former President Donald Trump and the alleged “criminal bribery scheme“ involving Hunter Biden and then-Vice President Joe Biden.
Republicans Demand Accountability
McCarthy’s strong stance reflects the growing frustration among Republicans, who are demanding accountability and transparency from the Department of Justice. The recent proposal by the Department of Energy regarding gas stoves has also drawn criticism from Republicans, who view it as an “alarming violation” of the law.
“If we find at the end of the day that Garland lied, I will start an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy emphasized during an interview with Jesse Watters Primetime.
Testimony from IRS agent whistleblowers is expected to further shed light on the matter. These whistleblowers are set to testify before the House Oversight Committee, raising concerns about conflicts of interest, preferential treatment, deviations from normal investigative procedures, and conflicting information provided by Attorney General Merrick Garland to Congress. One of the whistleblowers, IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley, has submitted an affidavit detailing these concerns.
Commitment to Investigating Corruption
McCarthy affirmed that House Republicans will persist in their investigation into alleged corruption within the Biden family and the current administration. He vowed, “We will not stop.”
While acknowledging that House Republicans do not have the power to indict, McCarthy stressed the importance of fighting for every bit of information and exposing the truth. He credited their ability to pursue these investigations to winning the House majority, stating, “Everything you know today is only because we won the House, and we have not stopped going after this.”
Trump’s ‘Target’ Letter and the Fight for Justice
McCarthy’s remarks coincided with former President Donald Trump’s announcement that he had received a ‘target’ letter from special counsel Jack Smith, regarding another grand jury investigation into the events of January 6th.
In response to this news, McCarthy highlighted the need to showcase the stark contrast between the treatment of individuals associated with the Biden family and the treatment of others. He expressed his concerns, stating, “If you’re part of Biden Inc. family, you get treated one way. Everybody else gets treated differently.”
McCarthy further emphasized the importance of seeking justice and bringing the truth to the American public. He criticized the FBI’s actions, pointing out the disparity between their raid on Mar-a-Lago and their handling of Hunter Biden, where the statute of limitations was allowed to expire.
“Time and again, we’ve shown the American public that if you are part of the Biden Inc. family, you are treated differently than the rest of America. That will not stand. We will take this in every direction we can,” McCarthy declared.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the battle for accountability and justice remains at the forefront for House Republicans.
