McCarthy warns AG Garland of impeachment over potential whistleblower claims.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) Raises Possibility of Impeaching Merrick Garland Over Whistleblower Testimony
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has ignited a firestorm by suggesting the potential impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland. This comes after whistleblower testimonies alleged that Garland interfered in a criminal investigation to protect the Biden family.
Whistleblower Testimonies Allege Interference by Garland
Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Jason Smith (R-MO), released whistleblower testimonies that accuse Garland of interfering with Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ investigation into Hunter Biden, the president’s son. The allegations include denying special counsel protection and blocking indictments against Hunter in Washington, D.C., and California.
“We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee,” McCarthy emphasized on Twitter. “If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a whistleblower allegations prove accurate.”>larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”

In response to McCarthy’s statements, Ian Sams, spokesman for the White House counsel’s office, issued a statement on behalf of the administration.
“Speaker McCarthy and the extreme House Republicans are proving they have no positive agenda to actually help the American people on the issues most important to them and their families,” Sams said. “Perhaps Congressional Republicans are desperate to distract from their own plan to give even more tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations and add more than $3 trillion to the deficit.”

Garland Denies Allegations and Defends Weiss’ Authority
When questioned about the whistleblower allegations, Garland firmly denied them. He stated that Weiss was given full authority to bring charges in any jurisdiction he chose and that he never received a request to confer special counsel status on Weiss.
Garland explained that Weiss, who was assigned the Hunter Biden case under former President Donald Trump, had the freedom to continue his investigation and make decisions on prosecution in any district. Garland also highlighted that Weiss had expressed the same in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee.
Potential Impeachment of the President
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has also raised the possibility of impeaching the president if the whistleblower allegations are verified.
“If the facts show that there’s high crimes, misdemeanors, bribery, treason, whatever, if the facts show that there is the crime there that warrants impeachment, then our duty compels us,” Jordan stated.
