McDonald’s aims to extend $5 meal deal to keep customer sales trek going
McDonald’s seems to be loving its $5 meal deal and the lure it has had on customers — so much so that the chain is planning to continue the deal past its planned retirement.
The deal, which gives customers a choice between a McDouble or a McChicken sandwich paired with a small order of fries, four chicken nuggets, and a soft drink, will be extended at a majority of its locations past its initial four-week run that started on June 25. The restaurant chain stated in a message from two officials that this deal “is meeting the objective of driving guests back to our restaurants.”
“Driving guest counts ultimately propels our business and is the key to sustained growth,” said the message from McDonald’s Chief Marketing Officer Tariq Hassan and National Field President Myra Doria.
Approximately 93% of all McDonald’s locations are committed to continuing this $5 meal deal, though the length of the extension will vary among restaurants, according to a memo viewed by Bloomberg News.
The move to extend this deal comes as McDonald’s is also planning to increase its “affordability plans through the rest of year,” the memo states. The chain is also seeking to increase its hours of operation to serve customers during off-peak hours.
McDonald’s executives have stated the company plans to introduce more deals in the wake of customer complaints regarding the chain’s rising prices. The chain’s sales did increase 1.9% between January and March, though it was below the 2.1% increase that had been forecast.
Other fast food chains and restaurants have also introduced their own meal deals to bring customers back amid inflation. These deals include Buffalo Wild Wings offering all-you-can-eat wings for $19.99 on Mondays and Wednesdays at participating locations, as well as Pizza Hut offering a $6.99 meal box.
