McEnany inquired about 2024 GOP contenders’ views on school safety. Here are their responses.

Fox News Asks GOP Presidential Candidates About School Safety

Fox News contributor and former Trump administration White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany posed an important question to each GOP presidential candidate on Friday’s “Fox News Tonight.” She asked, “What is your plan to protect America’s students? How do you intend to achieve that while keeping gun rights unabridged?”

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy responded by emphasizing the need to address the mental health epidemic in the country. He also highlighted the correlation between major mass shootings and individuals growing up in fatherless households. Ramaswamy advocated for pro-family policies and the regulation of addictive social media platforms for young children, comparing it to regulations on cigarettes. Additionally, he stressed the importance of having three armed security guards in every school.

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley proposed the implementation of a single point of entry in schools. She emphasized the need for a law enforcement officer in every school, as well as the presence of guidance counselors and mental health counselors. Haley recognized the significance of mental health in relation to school safety.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina highlighted the importance of education in ensuring safety. He stated that a good education is crucial for students to feel secure in their own schools.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ press secretary referenced the measures already implemented in the state. The statement emphasized DeSantis’ commitment to school safety without compromising Second Amendment rights. It also mentioned the governor’s support for local law enforcement entities and their access to necessary resources.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign referred to his remarks at the NRA, where he called for the repeal of ineffective laws and proposed a tax credit for teachers who purchase concealed handguns. Trump also suggested allocating approximately $12 billion to fund armed security guards at the entrance of every school in America.

Former Vice President Mike Pence shared a similar view, calling for full funding to hire armed and trained resource officers in every public and private school in America.

McEnany acknowledged that some candidates did not respond to the question but emphasized that they will eventually have to address it.
