Media supports Democrats in criticizing judges, but hypocritically condemns Trump for doing the same.
When California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom discovered that one of his state’s cherished gun bans had been deemed unconstitutional, he was livid.
In a fiery rant shared on social media, Newsom launched a scathing attack on United States District Court Judge Roger Benitez, known for striking down California’s attempts to infringe on Second Amendment rights. Newsom labeled Benitez a “right-wing, NRA puppet” and called his decision “an absolute disgrace.”
“This is precisely why America needs a constitutional amendment to protect common-sense gun safety reforms. Until then, extremist judges will continue to undermine the will of the American people,” Newsom expressed on X.
The Democrat reiterated his anger in an official statement, accusing Benitez of making the state more dangerous for children, families, and worshippers.
By the time Newsom voiced his disdain, California Attorney General Rob Bonta had already filed a notice of appeal to overturn the decision, describing it as “dangerous and misguided.”
In 2021, Newsom had expressed a similar level of fury towards Benitez when the judge first declared the state’s sweeping gun ban unconstitutional. However, the ruling was later vacated and remanded back to Benitez after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. Armed with more precedent, Benitez once again declared the ban unlawful.
“California’s response to the criminal misuse of a few is to disarm its law-abiding residents. This knee-jerk reaction is unconstitutional, just as it was 250 years ago,” Benitez stated in his decision.
Both times Benitez intervened to protect the rights of law-abiding Americans, the corporate media amplified Newsom’s furious response.
The media’s favorable treatment of Newsom’s outrage stands in stark contrast to their relentless scrutiny of Republicans who oppose left-wing judicial rulings. Former President Donald Trump, in particular, faced severe criticism from the media.
From the moment Trump took office until his departure, the corporate media deemed his disagreements with judicial decisions as “out of line with past presidents” and a potential threat to the rule of law. They accused him of politicizing the courts and compromising judges’ safety.
In 2017, just months after Trump took office, The Washington Post compiled a list of ”all the times Trump personally attacked judges” and criticized his behavior.
Even now, as a private citizen, Trump faces unprecedented consequences for criticizing judges and the corrupt Department of Justice.
Democrats, from Sen. Chuck Schumer to the Biden White House, have engaged in verbal battles and encouraged retaliation against judges and courts that don’t align with their agenda. Newsom, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, has joined their ranks by blaming Benitez’s ruling for future gun violence.
The corrupt corporate media clearly apply a double standard when it comes to Democrats undermining the judiciary. Their willingness to amplify and even fabricate smears against Republican-nominated judges like Benitez is evident.

How does the media’s bias in favor of gun control advocates affect the perception of those who oppose such measures?
Ment of Newsom’s rage reflects a larger trend in which the mainstream media consistently sides with gun control advocates and demonizes those who oppose such measures. The framing of Newsom’s outrage as justified and righteous, while portraying Benitez as a puppet of the National Rifle Association (NRA), is not only biased but also misrepresents the facts of the case.
Judge Benitez’s ruling was based on the recognition that the Second Amendment protects the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. The decision highlighted the flaws in California’s sweeping gun ban, which unfairly targeted responsible gun owners and infringed upon their constitutional rights. By striking down the ban, Benitez affirmed the importance of individual liberties and the need to uphold the Constitution.
Newsom’s response, on the other hand, demonstrates a disregard for the rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens. Instead of accepting the court’s decision and engaging in a thoughtful debate on gun control policies, he resorts to personal attacks and inflammatory rhetoric. This approach undermines the spirit of civil discourse and hampers meaningful progress towards finding common-ground solutions on this important issue.
Furthermore, Newsom’s call for a constitutional amendment to protect “common-sense gun safety reforms” is misleading. The Second Amendment already guarantees the right to bear arms, and any proposed amendment that infringes upon this right would not be in line with the principles of the Constitution. It is important to remember that the Constitution was designed to protect individual liberties, including the right to self-defense, and should not be undermined by knee-jerk reactions or misguided attempts to restrict this fundamental right.
The media’s bias in favor of gun control advocates not only hampers an open and honest debate on the issue but also perpetuates a divisive narrative that demonizes those who support the rights of law-abiding citizens. It is crucial for journalists and media outlets to provide balanced and objective coverage of such matters, ensuring that all perspectives are given fair representation.
In conclusion, Judge Benitez’s ruling to strike down California’s gun ban based on constitutional grounds should be celebrated as a victory for individual liberties and the rule of law. While Governor Newsom’s anger and dissatisfaction are understandable, his response to the court’s decision reinforces the need for a more respectful and constructive dialogue on gun control policies. The media’s biased portrayal of this issue further highlights the importance of fair and balanced reporting, as it plays a crucial role in promoting informed public discourse and fostering a deeper understanding of complex issues like gun control.
