Media’s Extreme: Advocating Baby Killing as ‘Freedom.’ Labeling Pumpkin Spice Lattes as Aggression.
Happy Saturday. Let’s check in on the media this past week.
1. Fact-checking the fact checkers: Some journalists portrayed the terrorists as the real victims of Hamas’s slaughter of over 1,000 Israelis last weekend. They warned that accounts of Palestinian barbarians beheading the babies they killed lacked confirmation and could perpetuate Islamophobic stereotypes. Snopes investigated the claim and found contradictory reports, leading to concerns about premature or unsubstantiated information.
As violence escalated in Israel and Palestine, rumors spread about Hamas fighters beheading Israeli infants. Fact-checkers found contradictory reports and warned against echoing Islamophobic rhetoric or connecting unverified acts of brutality to unrelated Islamist groups.
As the IDF says it does not ‘have time” to confirm the reports of beheaded babies, the level of misinformation around events in Israel ‘seems near unprecedented.”

Yesterday the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that it had confirmed Hamas beheaded babies & children while we were live on the air. The Israeli government now says today it CANNOT confirm babies were beheaded. I needed to be more careful with my words and I am sorry. https://t.co/Yrc68znS1S
A series of shocking reports have spread horrific claims of baby beheadings by Hamas militants across social and mainstream media in recent days. But the reports are unconfirmed, and in some cases have been retracted. https://t.co/R5IwE0mJx1
There was no beheading of a single baby, let alone 40.
There was no massacre of 260 Israelis at a rave.
There has been no mass rape of Israeli women or the targeting of elderly.
All the above are lies.
Disinformation to dehumanise Palestinians and justify a genocide in Gaza.
The story about babies being beheaded at Kfar Aza is based on one live report by one Israeli reporter and has not been corroborated by officials but it has been reported as fact around the world by experienced journalists who should know better. #gaza
2. Fair and balanced: After initially sympathetic reporting on the worst terror attack in Israeli history, the media began covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with moral equivalency.
Reuters provided a brief history of Gaza’s 75 years of conflict, highlighting the violence from both sides.
The Washington Post explained the Gaza Strip’s complex situation, including tensions over a sacred Muslim site and the punishing blockade.
NPR explored how the Al-Aqsa Mosque became a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasizing the escalation of violence against Palestinians.
Israel has bombarded the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas’ surprise attack, and the impacts of the strikes are already devastating. https://t.co/XUIBAD4DLq
Meanwhile, on X, formerly known as Twitter, journalists defended Hamas’s atrocities as forms of ”decolonization” and ”liberation.”
What is happening in occupied Palestine is a response to weeks and months and years of daily Israeli military invasions into Palestinian towns, killings of Palestinians, and the very fact that millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are besieged under Israeli blockade.
It’s truly shocking to see people reveal themselves as rabid antisemites who think decapitating Israeli babies is acceptable in the name of ‘decolonization’.

3. That didn’t age well: Left-wing activists, including the national Black Lives Matter group, refused to condemn statements from local chapters glorifying Hamas’s terror attacks.

Those 2020 news articles rebutting claims that BLM was a terrorist organization suddenly don’t look so definitive.
4. Lock him up: New Jersey Democrat Bob Menendez, indicted for corruption, remains in the Senate and is running for reelection, while Republicans were constantly asked to answer for the misdeeds of former President Donald Trump.

5. What’s problematic today: Progressives are now targeting Starbucks’s Pumpkin Spice Latte, claiming it has a violent history due to its globalized ingredients.

Om pro-Palestinian activists calling for violence against Jews. The media initially ignored or downplayed these incidents but eventually had to address them due to public outcry.
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) employee Monifa Bandele retweeted a call for the “eradication” of Israel and the killing of all Jews.
Black Lives Matter New York defended the statement, saying it was “unambiguous” and dismissing claims of anti-Semitism.
Several progressive media outlets reluctantly covered the story after pressure from conservative media and public backlash.
When activists call for the killing of Jews, it’s not anti-Semitism, it’s just anti-Zionism.
Antisemitic threats and intimidation are unacceptable and have no place in the discourse around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
4. Selective censorship: Social media platforms faced criticism for their inconsistent and biased approach to moderating content related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Twitter allowed hashtags like #HitlerWasRight and #Covid1948, which fueled anti-Semitism and promoted violence against Jews.
Facebook temporarily disabled the account of a pro-Israel activist who was sharing his experiences in Israel but allowed posts cheering for the death of Israeli civilians.
YouTube removed several videos that highlighted Hamas atrocities, citing violations of their community guidelines, while allowing videos promoting Palestinian resistance.
Social media companies need to address their double standards in content moderation and ensure a fair and unbiased approach.
