Medical Schools Must Go Woke, Accreditor Declares

The Association of American Medical Colleges, which together with the American Medical Association certifies all U.S. medical schools, this month released a set of guidelines requiring the faculty and graduates of medical schools to prioritize left-wing positions on “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
“Since the founding of the United States, there have been systemic health and health care inequities grounded in racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, and other forms of discrimination,” the guidelines read. Therefore, the association says, a medical school graduate will have to identify “systems of power, privilege, and oppression,” learn “the impact of various systems of oppression on health and health care (e.g., colonization, White supremacy, acculturation, assimilation),” and incorporate “dimensions of diversity into the patient’s health assessment and treatment plan.”
This is not the first time the AAMC has tried to incorporate “woke” ideology into its guidelines. The organization last year attacked “individualism and meritocracy” in medicine and falsely said race has “no genetic or scientific basis.” Doctors warned the guidelines would lower standards of care and endanger lives, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
The AAMC also updated its guidance for medical school faculty. Instructors at medicals schools will have to teach students “how knowledge of intersectionality informs clinical decision-making and practice,” encourage them to “advocate for policies and practice that promote, build, and sustain diversity of the health care team,” and show them “how systems of power, privilege, and oppression inform policies and practices and how to engage with systems to disrupt oppressive practices.”
A group of black doctors denounced the AAMC’s guidelines last year as “a form of naïve ‘color blindness'” that would “perpetuate and potentially exacerbate disparities,” the Free Beacon reported. One doctor said the guidelines would pressure schools to pass low-performing minority students.
“This can kill people,” another doctor said.
