Four lesser-known Republicans considering 2024 bid.
Get Ready for a Crowded Republican Primary Field in 2024
Excitement is building as a number of potential Republican candidates have hinted at throwing their hats into the ring for the 2024 presidential race. With so many contenders, it’s shaping up to be a crowded primary field.
Under-the-Radar Republicans
While some high-profile Republicans like Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former Vice President Mike Pence, and former Gov. Chris Christie continue to test the waters, there are also some under-the-radar candidates trying to gain ground. Here are four Republicans who are flirting with the idea of announcing:
- Rick Perry: The former Energy Secretary and Texas Governor has not ruled out the possibility of jumping into the presidential fray. He unsuccessfully vied for the GOP nomination in 2012 and 2016, but later endorsed Trump and joined his administration.
- Will Hurd: The former Texas Rep. has kept a 2024 campaign on the table for some time, but recently raised eyebrows by teasing that a decision will come “very soon.” He worked for the CIA for nine years and served in the House from 2015 to 2021.
- Francis Suarez: The Miami Mayor is considering getting into the race, touting his record of lowering taxes, reducing crime, and improving economic growth in his city as a model for the country. Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway has pushed for him to be on a ticket in 2024, but Suarez has said he is not interested in being vice president.
- Doug Burgum: The North Dakota Governor is keeping his options open, saying that no decisions have been made about 2024 at this time.
These candidates are just a few of the many Republicans eyeing a run for the White House in 2024. With at least seven candidates already declared and more expected to join the race, it’s sure to be an exciting primary season.
