Meet The American Cowboys Who Rushed To Israel To Fill In For Farmers Called Up To Fight Hamas
American Cowboys Answer the Call to Help Israel in Time of Need
A group of American cowboys from Montana and Arkansas have stepped up to assist Israelis during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. As foreign agriculture workers flee and reservists leave their day jobs to fight in Gaza, these cowboys have answered the call for help.
Ezekiel Strain, a farmer from Montana, explained, “I actually left several hundred tons of hay still on the field back home. When I heard the war broke out, this was the important thing to do.”
Joined by his brother Yoseph Strain, John Plocher from Montana, and Luke Hutslar from Arkansas, the group has been working tirelessly in Judea and Samaria. They have been building security roads and volunteering on farms, even picking peppers for a local farmer who had been called up to the reserves.
“If they weren’t here, those peppers wouldn’t be getting picked like they are today,” said Joshua Waller, the director of operations of HaYovel, the organization that brought the cowboys.
HaYovel, founded nearly twenty years ago, brings Christian Zionists to volunteer in agriculture, primarily at vineyards in Judea and Samaria. Waller emphasized the importance of their work, stating, “For the last 20 years we’ve been helping, but right now after October 7 these guys are in a huge crisis.”
The cowboys have become a sensation in Israel, earning the nickname “The Cowboys” from the locals. However, they are quick to dispel any stereotypes, with John Plocher stating, “It’s funny because they have this certain image of what a cowboy is, you know, drinking, cussing, and whatever. All those aren’t necessarily true.”

This is not the first time the cowboys have volunteered in Israel. They have been to the country before to support Waller’s group and plan to stay for a few weeks. Despite the ongoing war, they are determined to continue their work in agriculture and construction.
Ezekiel Strain explained, “A lot of the fathers and men are on the border there, so there’s a lot less people here to do the work and they need the help. The need of Israel surpasses any concern of mine about safety.”
John Plocher added, “Nowadays people support a lot with their lips and say they support, but not a whole lot of people actually stand up for what they think. So when I was given the opportunity to come, I wanted to come.”
In addition to their work, the cowboys have been making efforts to connect with Israelis. They have attended barbecues, visited the wounded, and even met the family of an American killed in a recent terrorist attack.
Joshua Waller explained that bringing the cowboys to Israel is part of their mission, named “Operation Ittai” after the non-Jewish commander in King David’s army. He stated, “Israel is in a really tough spot right now, we need non-Jews to come and be a part of strengthening the Jewish community.”
HaYovel is also raising funds to provide equipment to Jewish villages and towns in risky areas. Waller emphasized the importance of this support, saying, “We’re surrounded by about two million Arabs and about 500,000 Jews here, and we have our hands full.”
So far, the group has raised $2 million of their $29 million goal. The funds will be used to fulfill requests from Jewish villages, including bulletproof jackets, helmets, night vision goggles, and even flashlights.
The cowboys have also contributed 26 drones, two of which have successfully caught terrorists.
John Plocher expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to help, stating, “I just want to be here and help. I didn’t expect to be able to encourage the Jewish people on this level and I am humbled by it and just glad that I can.”
How have the American cowboys from Montana and Arkansas been assisting farmers in Israel during the conflict?
S cowboys, we are used to hard work and long hours. We feel a sense of duty to help our fellow farmers in Israel who are facing challenges due to the conflict. It’s our way of showing our support and solidarity.”
The group of cowboys has quickly become a symbol of hope and resilience in Israel. They have been welcomed by the locals and are seen as a ray of light amid the darkness of war. The cowboys are not only providing much-needed assistance with agriculture and construction, but they are also lifting the spirits of the Israeli people.
Their presence in Israel has not gone unnoticed, with many people expressing their appreciation on social media. The Daily Wire recently shared a video of the cowboys picking peppers and included their heartfelt message to the people of Israel. The video has garnered attention and has further highlighted the impact of their work.
It is important to note that this is not the first time these cowboys have journeyed to Israel to lend a helping hand. They have previously volunteered with HaYovel and have seen the positive impact of their efforts. Despite the ongoing conflict, the cowboys remain committed to their work and plan to stay for a few weeks.
The dedication and selflessness of these American cowboys serve as a reminder of the strong bond between the United States and Israel. It is heartening to see individuals from different countries and backgrounds coming together in times of need. Their actions embody the values of friendship, compassion, and unity.
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, it is crucial that we recognize and acknowledge the efforts of those who are going above and beyond to help. The American cowboys from Montana and Arkansas are shining examples of the goodness and generosity that exists in humanity.
In conclusion, the American cowboys who have answered the call to help Israel during this time of need deserve our utmost respect and admiration. Their selflessness and dedication to the cause are inspiring and serve as a reminder of the power of unity. As they work tirelessly to assist the people of Israel, let us stand beside them in support and be reminded of the strength of the human spirit in times of adversity.
