Meghan McCain says Dems ‘want to reinvent history’ about her father – Washington Examiner
Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for invoking her father’s name at a rally in Arizona to attract moderate and right-leaning voters. In her remarks, Meghan asserted that Democrats are attempting to reinterpret her father’s legacy for their political advantage. She mentioned, “…democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be,” and expressed her willingness to share her memories of what her father truly thought about Harris. During the rally, Harris praised John McCain for his pivotal vote in preserving the Affordable Care Act, calling him a “great American” and a “war hero.”
Meghan McCain says Democrats ‘want to reinvent history’ about her father
Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Republican Sen. John McCain, called out Vice President Kamala Harris for using her father’s name in an effort to appeal to more moderate and right-leaning voters at a rally in Arizona.
“Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for…,” the younger McCain wrote on X. “But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris….”
During Harris’s rally in Arizona on Thursday, the vice president talked about how John McCain, beloved by many in the Grand Canyon State, played a key role in preserving the Affordable Care Act, which Trump was keen to axe.
“It required one more vote to keep it intact, and that vote was the late great John McCain,” Harris said. “A great American, a war hero, John McCain.”
“It was like out of a movie — the wooden doors broke open, and John McCain came walking into the well of the U.S. Senate and said, ‘No, ya don’t,’” Harris said, reenacting McCain’s thumbs-down motion. “No, ya don’t. No, ya don’t.”
Harris then went on to argue former President Donald Trump plans to continue his efforts of repealing the Affordable Care Act if elected president again. The rally was not the first time that Democrats have brought up John McCain on the campaign trail.
Trump and McCain famously feuded with each other before and during Trump’s presidential term. The former president made the controversial claim that McCain, a former Navy pilot in Vietnam, was not actually a war hero since he was captured.
Harris has garnered the endorsement of McCain’s son, Jim McCain.
However, Meghan said she wouldn’t be supporting either candidate, adding in another post on X that she would share what her father really thought of Harris.
“And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea,” McCain wrote.
