Megyn Kelly and Others Blast Newsweek for Labeling Critics of Johns Hopkins University as “Right Wing” and “Anti-Gay”
Newsweek faced backlash on social media after labeling critics of their article about Johns Hopkins University referencing women as “non-men” as “right wing,” “anti-gay,” and more. Megyn Kelly, host of Sirius XM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast, was one of many who criticized Newsweek for their article. She tweeted to her millions of followers, “This is next level. Newsweek forced to update its article referring to women as ‘non-men.’ Making misogyny great again [tomwritesnow]!”

Jennifer Gingrich, a self-described “radical feminist” and “lifelong leftie,” also criticized Newsweek’s article. She tweeted, “Look at this appalling misogyny in [Newsweek] from [TomWritesNow], telling women who object to Johns Hopkins calling us non-men that we’re just ‘right wing’ bigots engaging in a backlash against ‘LGBTQ rights.’ I’m left-wing, Tom, and this is repugnant.”

After the criticism, Newsweek updated their article and headline for context and clarity. However, the university’s definition for “lesbian” in its glossary of LGBTQ+ terms still refers to women as “non-men.”
Other Backlash
J.K. Rowling, who has been the target of transgender activists for her defense of biological women, also criticized Johns Hopkins University. She tweeted, “Man: no definition needed. Non-man (formerly known as woman): a being definable only by reference to the male. An absence, a vacuum where there’s no man-ness.”
Others also criticized the university for “destroying” and trying to “erase” women.
- Sonia Gallego tweeted, “One of the most prestigious universities in the US @JohnsHopkins is actively destroying the category of women – adult human females. We are now to be referred to as ‘Non-men.’”
- Justin Hart tweeted, “How is this thing real?! @JohnsHopkins is a joke. They were a joke during Covid and they’re a laughing stock now.”
- Amy Curtis tweeted, “What is this absolute nonsense @JohnsHopkins? ‘Non-men’? We are women. Stop erasing us.”
