Melania Trump documentary to cost tens of millions of dollars
An Amazon documentary centered on incoming first lady Melania Trump could cost as much as $40 million.
The film is set to give an “unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look” at Trump’s life, according to an Amazon statement.
The documentary is being executive produced by Trump and Fernando Sulichin while being directed by Brett Ratner, who has faced sexual harassment accusations but denied them, recently directed Georgetown, a political drama set in Washington, D.C.
Trump has not shied away from her own business ventures since her first term as first lady. In October, she released her memoir, Melania, which included personal stories and family photos.
The film’s reported cost comes as Amazon has cozied up to President-elect Donald Trump since his 2024 presidential election victory.
Amazon also contributed a million dollars to the president-elect’s inauguration, along with other tech companies. This donation came amid Amazon Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos’s plans to visit Mar-a-Lago after the November election.
Two weeks before the 2024 election, owner Bezos announced that Amazon’s endorsement tradition is over, joining the Los Angeles Times and USA Today in opting not to support Vice President Kamala Harris or the president-elect. The Washington Post had issued its backing to candidates since the 1980s.
The documentary film about Melania Trump’s life is anticipated to be released globally in theaters and streaming in the second half of 2025.
