Melania Trump says she ‘always’ fears the worst with threats against husband: ‘And it happened’
Former first lady Melania Trump said that she “always” fears the worst regarding the threats her husband faces, a worry confirmed by the assassination attempts against him.
In a rare sit-down interview on Fox News’s Hannity, Melania Trump said that the attempts against her husband’s life didn’t come as a surprise. She began by speaking of her reaction to the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump while he was still in office.
“I saw how they treated him, how the media was against him,” the former first lady said after host Sean Hannity said she predicted how he would be treated. “I think they are afraid of his strength, and he was leading this country with peace through strength. So as soon he announced that he’s running for the presidency, everything really changed. And I saw it, and I said, you know, this will not be very pleasant.”
“So I always said to him, ‘What is next?’ So it’s, in one way, you’re not surprised, and every event that had happened, I’m thinking, ‘What is next? What are they trying to do?’ And you always fear the worst, and then it happened,” she said, referring to the assassination attempts against her husband.
The former first lady, famously private, has gone on a rare media campaign in the month before her husband’s third presidential election. Her first memoir, Melania, will be released on Tuesday.
The book made headlines on Wednesday after the Guardian reported that she expresses strong support for abortion access in it.
Her stance on abortion had not been reported previously. She devoted substantial space in her book to voice seemingly unconditional support for abortion access, saying there was “no room for negotiation” on the matter.
