Merrick Garland reveals Special Counsel appointed for Hunter Biden investigation.

Attorney General Merrick Garland Announces Special ⁤Counsel Appointment ‌in Hunter Biden Probe

In‍ an‌ exciting development, Attorney General Merrick Garland revealed on‍ Friday that Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss has been chosen as a special counsel⁣ to investigate⁣ President Joe Biden’s son. This decision seems to have originated⁤ from Weiss himself.

“On Tuesday of ⁤this week, Mr. Weiss advised me that, in his ‍judgment, his investigation had reached a stage at which he should continue his work as a‍ special counsel, and he asked to be so⁣ appointed,” Garland‍ said.

“Upon considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel.”

Weiss, who was appointed ⁣by⁢ former President Donald Trump, now possesses the authority to conduct the‌ Hunter Biden investigation independently and as he sees fit.

“This appointment confirms my commitment to provide Mr. Weiss ‌ [with] all the resources he requests,” Garland said Friday.

“It also reaffirms that Mr. Weiss has⁤ the authority he needs to conduct a thorough investigation and to continue to take the steps he deems appropriate independently, based only on the facts and the law.”

Garland emphasized that Weiss will have the power to oversee the investigation, make decisions regarding charges, and will not‍ be subject to day-to-day supervision from any department official. However, Weiss’ final assessment will be reviewed by Garland himself.

In April, an‌ IRS whistleblower claimed that Weiss had previously sought special counsel status in the Hunter Biden case but ⁢was denied. Weiss has denied these ‌allegations, according to ABC News.

This announcement by the attorney ⁣general comes at⁢ a tumultuous time for Hunter ‍Biden and his father, President Joe ‍Biden.

Last month, a plea⁤ deal involving Hunter collapsed as it became clear ‍that it would not grant the president’s son blanket immunity from future prosecution. Hunter ultimately withdrew from the deal and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Both Hunter and Joe Biden are currently‍ facing allegations of selling access to Joe Biden during his time⁢ as vice president ⁣under the Obama administration. Additionally, they have been accused of accepting $5 million bribes from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

Rep. James Comer, who is leading a congressional investigation into the alleged corruption of the Bidens, criticized Garland’s decision to appoint a special counsel in the ‍Hunter Biden case.

“This move by Attorney General Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of the House Oversight Committee’s mounting evidence of ‍President Joe Biden’s role in his⁢ family’s schemes selling ‘the brand’ for millions of dollars to foreign nationals,” he said, according to ABC News.
