One seizure occurred early Tuesday morning when a male Mexican citizen who’s a “legal permanent resident” of the United States, was caught attempting to bring in the illicit drug with 92 packages in parts of a truck including the “spare tire, tailgate and speaker box.” It totaled up to 143 pounds, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Our CBP officers and canine teams continue to be proactive and thorough in their methods to stop contraband from entering the country,” Chris Leon, area port director for San Luis, said in a statement. “Their commitment to upholding public safety cannot be understated.”

Later that same morning, a female Mexican citizen who was on an American visa was stopped by officers with four pounds of methamphetamine that she had on herself. The vehicles and both people involved were passed on to federal law enforcement, the news release stated.

Between both seizures, the “estimated street value” is nearly $154,000.

As of Jan. 7, there have been roughly 28.8 thousand pounds of meth seized by CBP in fiscal year 2025 so far, and 24.8 thousand of those were at the southern border. More than 174,000 pounds of the drug was taken by CBP in the prior year, according to federal data across both borders and throughout the country – the vast majority also at the southern border.

The Center Square reported earlier this week that agents at the border confiscated 117 pounds of meth and 69 pounds of cocaine that were stored in vehicles before being caught by a mix of technology and canines.
