Miami Mayor Francis Suarez declares candidacy for GOP presidential nomination.
Republican Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is making a bold move by filing paperwork to run for president in the upcoming 2024 election, according to new FEC filings.
Suarez joins an already crowded field of contenders, with former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leading the pack. Other notable candidates include Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), former Vice President Mike Pence, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. However, Suarez has yet to make a significant impact in recent polls.
Suarez has been gaining attention for his efforts to transform Miami into a thriving tech and crypto hub, earning the city the title of the next Silicon Valley, as reported by the Associated Press.
Some of Suarez’s notable achievements include a significant reduction in crime rates, increased funding for the police force, low unemployment rates, and making Miami a top destination for tech job growth.
However, Suarez’s bid for the Republican nomination faces challenges due to his past support for Democratic politicians and his criticism of policies championed by Trump and DeSantis. He has also been vocal about his support for the LGBTQ+ community, participating in events and initiatives that promote inclusivity.
June is Pride Month! What began as a statement of defiance against outdated laws now serves as a reminder and commemoration of where this movement all began over 50 years ago.

Despite his accomplishments, Suarez is currently under investigation by the FBI and SEC for his involvement in a business deal. The investigation focuses on potential bribery related to securing permits for a development project in Coconut Grove.
Furthermore, Suarez’s support for mask and vaccine mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn criticism. He took aggressive actions to enforce safety guidelines, including assigning police officers to issue fines for mask violations.
