Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announces GOP presidential bid despite left-wing support.
Republican Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is making a bold move by filing paperwork to run for president in the upcoming 2024 election, according to new FEC filings.
Suarez joins an already crowded field of contenders, with former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leading the pack. Other notable candidates include Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), former Vice President Mike Pence, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. However, Suarez has yet to make a significant impact in recent polls.
Despite this, Suarez has gained attention for his efforts to transform Miami into a thriving tech and crypto hub, earning the city the title of the next Silicon Valley, as reported by the Associated Press.
Suarez’s accomplishments include a significant reduction in crime rates, increased funding for the police force, and fostering tech job growth, making Miami a top city in the country for tech employment. These achievements have helped solidify his reputation as an effective leader.
However, Suarez faces challenges due to his past support for Democratic politicians and his criticism of policies championed by Trump and DeSantis. He has even voted against DeSantis in the past, supporting his opponent, Democrat Andrew Gillum. These factors may hinder his chances of securing the Republican nomination.
Despite these obstacles, Suarez has shown support for the LGBTQ+ community and has actively participated in events honoring transgender individuals. He has also been a vocal advocate for mask mandates and COVID safety measures, which may resonate with certain voters.
June is Pride Month! What began as a statement of defiance against outdated laws now serves as a reminder and commemoration of where this movement all began over 50 years ago.
