Michigan Dem Sentenced To House Arrest For Sabotaging Ballot Box In 2020 Election
A shocking case of election sabotage has resulted in a six-month house arrest sentence for a local official in Flint, Michigan. Kathy Funk, a former Flint Township Clerk, was found guilty of breaking a seal on a ballot box to prevent a recount of votes in her own election in 2020. The judge ordered her to wear an ankle monitor and write a public apology for her actions.
Despite winning her primary election by just 79 votes, Funk sabotaged the ballot box, making the ballots ineligible for a recount. She went on to win the general election later that fall. The judge admonished her for her break-in theory, which she used to cover up her actions.
Funk entered a “no contest” plea in January, and prosecutors agreed to spare her from jail time. However, she was sentenced to 24 months of probation and fines in addition to her house arrest.
The case has sparked controversy, with some calling for harsher punishment. But as Judge Mark Latchana pointed out, there is limited jail space, and Funk’s sentence is a reminder that election integrity must be protected at all costs.

Flint Township Supervisor Karyn Miller expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that Funk must be held accountable for her actions. This case serves as a warning to anyone who would attempt to undermine the democratic process.
