Michigan State Shooting Survivor Also Survived Sandy Hook Shooting Over a Decade Prior

A college student was among the victims of the massacre at Sandy Hook 10 years ago.

“I am 21 years old, and this is the second mass shooting that I have now lived through,” Jackie Matthews stated in TikTok video with emotion Shared early Tuesday

Matthews is now a senior student at MSU and was a Sandy Hook Elementary School student on December 14, 2012 when Adam Lanza gunman killed 20 students as well as six teachers and staff.

Matthews spoke from the same room where Anthony Dwayne McRae shot several MSU students hours earlier. She said that she still has a condition called a “full-blown PTSD fracture” Her lower back is a result of the hours she spent crouching in Sandy Hook’s classroom.

“The fact that this is the second mass shooting that I have now lived through is incomprehensible,” Matthews said.

“My heart goes out to all the families and the friends of the Michigan State shooting,” She went on.

“But we can no longer just provide love and prayers. It needs to be legislation, it needs to be action. It’s not okay. We can no longer allow this to happen. We can no longer be complacent.”

“We’ve let down generations of children by letting this continue,” One user replied.

“No person should ever endure what you have endured, even once,” Another wrote.

Matthews isn’t the only MSU survivor who has had to deal with the aftermath of the second school massacre. Unnamed freshman at MSU was also affected by the second school massacre. Survived the shooting at Oxford High School In 2021.

“I can’t believe this is happening again,” the student’s distraught mother told the Detroit Free Press in the aftermath of the Monday night carnage, which also took place on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting in Parkland, Fla.
