Militants Release Video of Airborne Assault on Israeli-Linked Ship
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have shocked the world with their daring raid on an Israeli-linked cargo ship. In a dramatic video released on Monday, the rebels showcased their audacious attack on the Galaxy Leader, a vessel connected to Israel. The Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for hijacking the ship and taking over two dozen crew members hostage.
The Houthis have vowed to target any ships associated with Israel until the end of Israel’s campaign against Gaza’s Hamas rulers. They declared, “All ships belonging to the Israeli enemy or that deal with it will become legitimate targets.”
The Galaxy Leader, a Bahamian-flagged vehicle-carrying ship, is linked to an Israeli billionaire. Although the crew consisted of individuals from various nationalities, including Bulgarian, Filipino, Mexican, and Ukrainian, no Israelis were on board.

The video of the raid reveals a helicopter landing on the ship’s top deck. A group of militants emerges from the helicopter and swiftly takes control of the ship’s bridge, holding the crew members hostage. Inside the ship’s empty cargo hold, a Houthi militant passionately shouts, “For the sake of Gaza” in Arabic, followed by the powerful phrase, “Allahu Akbar!” which means “God is most great!”
Israeli officials have stated that the Galaxy Leader is British-owned and Japanese-operated. However, public shipping databases indicate that the ship’s owners are associated with Ray Car Carriers, founded by Abraham ‘Rami’ Ungar, one of Israel’s wealthiest individuals. Ungar, aware of the raid, refrained from commenting until further details emerge.
The Houthis intercepted the ship in the Red Sea, southwest of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on its journey from Turkey to Pipavav, India. As they commandeered the vessel, the Houthis proudly flew Palestinian flags, taking it to an undisclosed location.

How does the hijacking of the Galaxy Leader by the Houthis raise concerns about maritime security in the region?
Vessel, the rebels claimed that the attack was in response to Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Hamas in Gaza. This incident further escalates the already tense situation in the region.
The video footage released by the Houthis clearly demonstrates their ability to carry out daring airborne assaults. The helicopter landing on the ship’s deck and the militants swiftly taking control of the bridge showcase their audacity and military prowess. The fact that they were able to hijack the ship with relative ease is a matter of concern for maritime security.
The militants explicitly stated their intention to target any ships associated with Israel. This poses a significant risk to international shipping and raises questions about the security of vessels operating in the region. It is evident that the Houthis are not only engaged in the conflict in Yemen but are willing to extend their activities beyond the country’s borders.
Despite claims by Israeli officials that the ship is British-owned and Japanese-operated, evidence suggests a connection to an Israeli billionaire, Abraham ‘Rami’ Ungar. The involvement of an Israeli-linked individual adds another layer of complexity to the situation, as it potentially implicates Israel in the ongoing conflict.
It is crucial for international actors, including the United Nations and regional powers, to address this alarming incident. Maintaining the security and stability of international waters is of paramount importance, and immediate efforts must be made to protect commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea and the surrounding areas.
The international community should condemn this act of aggression and call for the immediate release of the crew members who have been taken hostage. Any attempts to disrupt international trade and target civilian ships should be met with swift and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of maritime transportation.
The situation in the Middle East continues to be volatile, with conflicts and tensions escalating. It is imperative for countries in the region and the international community to engage in diplomatic dialogue and find peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflicts. The hijacking of the Galaxy Leader is a stark reminder of the risks faced by vessels navigating through these turbulent waters and underscores the need for enhanced security measures and international cooperation to combat maritime piracy and terrorism.
