Coast Guard Officials Warn of Oxygen Depletion on Missing Submersible
Coast Guard officials have issued a concerning estimate that the oxygen supply on the missing OceanGate submersible could run out by early Thursday morning. The submersible embarked on its expedition to explore the Titanic wreckage on Sunday morning but vanished just 1 hour and 45 minutes into its dive. Despite having 96 hours of oxygen on board, authorities fear that the air may be depleted as early as 7:08 a.m EDT.
The Titan Submersible: A High-Stakes Mission
The Titan submersible, developed by OceanGate, was specifically designed to accommodate five individuals, including a pilot and four crew members, for the purpose of exploring the Titanic passenger ship wreckage. While OceanGate has hailed the Titan as a cutting-edge machine, experts and observers have raised concerns about certain technical aspects. In fact, the Marine Technology Society expressed unanimous concern in a letter, particularly regarding OceanGate’s decision to bypass DNV-GL class rules.
