Coast Guard finds ‘presumed human remains’ in Titanic sub debris.
Human Remains Found in Titanic-Bound Submersible Wreckage
One week after the tragic implosion of the Titan submersible, the Coast Guard has made a significant discovery. “Presumed human remains” have been recovered within the wreckage of the vessel, providing crucial insights into the cause of this devastating event.
“The evidence will provide investigators from several international jurisdictions with critical insights into the cause of this tragedy,” Marine Board of Investigation Chairman Jason Neubaue said in a statement. “There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of the TITAN and help ensure a similar tragedy does not occur again.”
The analysis of the remains and evidence collection is part of a broader international investigation into the details of the submersible’s implosion at a depth of 13,000 feet underwater.
As the investigation progresses, the first photos of the submersible wreckage have emerged. These images reveal the parts of the submersible that were brought ashore from the Atlantic Ocean in Newfoundland, Canada.
The Coast Guard previously reported that the vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion” during its voyage to explore the Titanic shipwreck in the North Atlantic. Tragically, all five individuals on board lost their lives.
The experimental submersible, led by OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush and British billionaire Hamish Harding, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood, and Paul Henry Nargeolet, was constructed using carbon fiber and titanium, weighing a staggering 23,000 pounds.
The Coast Guard, in collaboration with other agencies like the National Transportation Safety Board, is actively investigating the explosion. Updates on the investigation are expected in the coming weeks.
“I am grateful for the coordinated international and interagency support to recover and preserve this vital evidence at extreme offshore distances and depths,” Neubaue expressed his gratitude.
Stay tuned for further developments as the investigation into this tragic event continues.
