Missouri Standoff: One officer dead, another shot as police surround armed suspect

Police in Missouri are engaged in an armed standoff with a suspect after two officers have been shot on Sunday evening, one fatally.
The Missouri State Freeway Patrol believes that the suspect, 35-year-old Kenneth Lee Simpson, is “possibly in a home on MO 19 in Hermann.”

In a Monday tweet, the Missouri State Freeway Patrol Troop F added that “A perimeter was established around the residence. The Patrol is working to establish contact with the suspect and using additional tactical resources to resolve the situation.”
Hours after sending out a blue alert on Sunday night, the MSHP revealed within the early hours of Monday morning that one of many shot officers had succumbed to his accidents.
Blue alerts are used within the state to rapidly inform the general public about “violent offenders who have killed, seriously injured, or pose an imminent and credible threat to law enforcement.”
The deceased officer was Hermann Police Division Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith.

The extra officer is in “serious but stable condition.”
In line with MSHP Troop F, Simpson is armed with an “unknown type of firearm.”

The suspect is reported as carrying a black hat, darkish pants, a black long-sleeve shirt, and tan boots. In line with the alert, he’s a white man with crimson hair and hazel eyes and stands at about 5 toes, 10 inches tall.
Simpson’s automobile is a black 2014 Jeep Wrangler, per the alert.
