Mitch McConnell Announces Return To Senate After Suffering Concussion In Fall
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has shared that he plans to return to the upper chamber next week after recovering from a fall that occurred over a month ago. The 81-year-old lawmaker suffered a concussion and minor rib fracture when he fell at a Washington, D.C. hotel during a private dinner. Following his discharge from the hospital, McConnell underwent physical therapy at an inpatient center, and then spent the next few days working from home. However, he assured the public that he would be following the advice of his physical therapists and that he will be back to working in person soon. McConnell is no stranger to medical ailments, having also fractured his shoulder in a fall in 2019.
Although it is good news that McConnell is returning, there have been other lawmakers who have been temporarily absent from Capitol Hill due to medical issues. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has been dealing with complications from shingles, which led her to request a temporary replacement on the Judiciary Committee. Additionally, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is expected to return to the Senate next week after seeking inpatient treatment for depression.
Despite these health issues, McConnell is focused on getting back to work and taking on important challenges for the benefit of the American people.
