Montana Lawmakers Pass Legislation to Ban TikTok Statewide

Montana became the first state in the country to outlaw TikTok and completely block game downloads when lawmakers passed legislation on Friday.

The use of the social media platform on legal devices has already been prohibited by the federal government and many states, but those prohibitions have refrained from illegal forbidding the app on personal devices.

The ban was approved by the Montana state House 54-43, sending it to Democratic Governor. According to the Wall Street Journal, Greg Gianforte requested a touch. If he signs it, the restrictions would go into effect on January 1st, 2024, making it impossible for TikTok to operate in the position and prohibiting Montanan app stores from selling it for download.

According to the Montana Free Press, the measure was originally approved by the Senate in a 30 to 20 ballot.

Given that its parent company, the Beijing-based ByteDance, has close ties to the Chinese authorities, it has come under scrutiny for potential security problems. The game may pose a threat to American buyers, according to security officials like FBI Director Christopher Wray.

TikTok poses a significant national security threat to the nation that we haven’t faced in the past, so I guess my point is that just to tie it all up ,” he said in April.

A global TikTok restrictions has been proposed by national lawmakers, but they have not yet voted on it. While in practice, former President Donald Trump made fruitless attempts to outlaw the app or force it to be sold to an American company.
