Morgan & Morgan CEO John Morgan is lending his aid in the fight to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida, potentially signaling further political involvement in the future.
The face of the iconic law firm has partnered with the nonprofit organization Smart and Safe Florida, which seeks to pass Amendment 3 to allow marijuana to be available for recreational use. The attorney, a fan of the drug himself, has argued that it ought to be treated in the same manner that wine are beer are.
“Passing Amendment 3 will create tens of thousands of new jobs, generate hundreds of millions for our state each year, and save taxpayers money by not having to pay to prosecute simple crimes for possession,” Morgan said. “I encourage Florida voters to join me in standing up for freedom, for common-sense laws, for the people, and for Amendment 3.”
This partnership has led to the release of three radio ads encouraging Florida residents to vote in favor of passing Amendment 3. One of the ads, titled “Fight Real Crime,” features Morgan stating that some people are in jail simply for using marijuana, with the attorney explaining that if he were governor, he would free or parole anyone serving time for possession.
It is not Morgan’s first time weighing in on the topic of marijuana, as he previously advocated Amendment 2, which legalized medical marijuana use. He has credited medical marijuana for helping his brother after breaking his neck at 18 and his father when he was fighting cancer.

Earlier this year, Morgan criticized Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for opposing regulation of a $15 minimum wage. The attorney wrote online that maybe he should run for governor as an independent, calling independents “the people’s party.”
Morgan previously praised DeSantis after the governor signed legislation that allowed smokable medical marijuana in the Sunshine State.
