Mormon teen tragically collapses and dies while sharing mission assignment with family.
A Tragic Loss: Mormon Teen Dies After Discovering Dream Mission Assignment
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a young teen’s excitement to embark on a missionary journey to Japan on behalf of the Mormon church was cut short when he suddenly passed away in front of his family.
Liam Mildenstein, a 19-year-old from Miami, Florida, had eagerly answered the call for a two-year mission from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had traveled a long way to fulfill this calling.
While Liam was prepared to go wherever the church would send him, he held a special excitement for the prospect of serving in Japan.
“My brother had submitted his mission papers, so we knew this was the last time we were going to meet before he would have to leave for two years,” shared Liam’s brother, Kaelten Mildenstein.
As Liam gathered his family for the momentous occasion of opening his mission assignment, he couldn’t contain his joy when he discovered that his dream was about to come true: he was assigned to Tokyo, Japan.
“He just got so excited, and then he fell over. We just thought he was messing around because that’s the kind of stuff he did,” recalled Kaelten.
Tragically, Liam’s excitement turned into a medical emergency. His heart stopped, and despite the efforts of emergency medical technicians, he could not be revived. Liam was pronounced dead within an hour of opening the envelope.
The Mildenstein family, devastated by the sudden loss, is currently awaiting a report from the coroner to determine the cause of Liam’s untimely death.
Remembered as a kind-hearted individual with a passion for music, Liam’s family is now seeking assistance through a GoFundMe campaign to cover his final expenses.
“All of this is completely surreal, and being far from home creates so many difficult circumstances that we are reaching out for any help or assistance possible. We want to ensure that Liam can be laid to rest peacefully in the middle of all of this chaos. Thank you for the love and support we feel from all of you,” expressed the Mildenstein family in a joint statement.
While Liam’s dream of serving in Japan will remain unfulfilled, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Missions like the one Liam was prepared to embark on are an integral part of the Mormon church’s missionary program, which involves single individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 dedicating themselves to spreading the church’s message.
