Mother of Woman Allegedly Murdered by Alabama Basketball Player Darius Miles Speaks Out: “Took My Baby’s Life Because She Wouldn’t Talk to Him”

The University of Alabama has been struck by tragedy after a young woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Alabama basketball player Darius Miles. It happened on Sunday night in Tuscaloosa, near the University of Alabama campus.

Miles has been indicted for capital murder after shooting Jamea Harris, Miles’ girlfriend.

“The driver of another vehicle, in which Harris was a passenger,” continued Kennedy, “approached campus police near Bryant-Denny Stadium at about 1:45 a.m. saying that someone had shot into the vehicle, and he fired back.”  One of the suspects was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, but Kennedy would not say who fired the gun or who exactly was injured by the shooting.

DeCarla cotton, Jamea Harris’s mother, has spoken out, saying that Miles was upset that Harris stopped speaking to her days before Jamea Harris died.

“Took my baby’s life because she wouldn’t talk to him,” said Cotton. “She was a beautiful young woman who loved her family and most of all her 5-year-old son Kaine. “She was just trying to enjoy her weekend with her cousin that attends the University of Alabama and her boyfriend.”

“She had a heart of gold and was loved by all. It’s no way to express how much she will be missed! I thank everyone that has reached out with their prayers and condolences and I appreciated however you would like to help,” Cotton said.

Kennedi Henderson, Harris’ cousin, also spoke out on the tragedy. “The family and I are just in disbelief that something like this has happened to her. We just ask for prayers at this time.”

Miles was taken into custody and is currently being held in Tuscaloosa County Jail. Michael Lynn Davis has been also taken into custody and charged in connection with the weekend shooting.
