Leftist host Mehdi Hasan’s Sunday night program “The Mehdi Hasan Show” on MSNBC has been canceled.
MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin will reportedly take over Hasan’s Sunday program time slot, as he is looking to expand his role in the media company.
Hasan will lose his weekend show and his show on Peacock’s streaming service, however, he will stay at the network as a “fill-in host” and “on-camera analyst.” Hasan joined MSNBC in 2020 after working at Al Jazeera and the left-leaning outlet The Intercept.
The canceled host has also been known for his outlandish remarks in the past.
In 2009, he boldly compared non-Muslims to “animals” and insinuated that homosexuals were “pedophiles”and “sexual deviants.” However, in 2019, he eventually apologized for his past comments, saying that it was “dumb offensive ranty stuff” and admitted that he had said “extreme-sounding things.”
Recently, Hasan has also been one of the most vocal critics of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas continues.
In an internal memo sent out by MSNBC president Rashida Jones, she maintained that this will be a positive move for the network.
“As we emerge from a multitude of historic events these past months, we have an opportunity to build on our accomplishments and keep the momentum going into 2024 and beyond,” Jones wrote.
“Hasan will remain at the network, bringing his much-needed insight and expertise to MSNBC viewers as a Political Analyst and fill-in host,” Jones added.

What were the reasons for the cancellation of Mehdi Hasan’s show on MSNBC?
OAN’s James Meyers reported on Thursday, November 30, 2023, that leftist host Mehdi Hasan’s program “The Mehdi Hasan Show” on MSNBC has been canceled.
According to reports, MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin will take over Hasan’s Sunday program time slot as he looks to expand his role in the media company. While Hasan will lose his weekend show and his show on Peacock’s streaming service, he will remain at the network as a “fill-in host” and “on-camera analyst.” Hasan joined MSNBC in 2020 after working at Al Jazeera and the left-leaning outlet The Intercept.
Hasan has gained notoriety in the past for his outlandish remarks. In 2009, he made controversial comments comparing non-Muslims to “animals” and insinuating that homosexuals were “pedophiles” and “sexual deviants.” However, in 2019, he issued an apology for his past comments, acknowledging that they were extreme and offensive.
One Twitter user, Jon Levine, highlighted the discrepancy between MSNBC allowing Hasan on air despite his past comments, while suggesting they would not do the same for someone who made similar remarks about a different religion.
More recently, Hasan has been a vocal critic of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. His stance on the matter has attracted attention and debate.
In an internal memo, MSNBC president Rashida Jones stated that the cancellation of Hasan’s show is a positive move for the network. She expressed the opportunity for the network to build on their accomplishments and momentum going into 2024 and beyond. Jones also emphasized that Hasan will remain at the network as a political analyst and fill-in host, bringing his insight and expertise to MSNBC viewers.
In conclusion, Mehdi Hasan’s Sunday night program “The Mehdi Hasan Show” on MSNBC has been canceled. Ayman Mohyeldin will take over Hasan’s time slot, and Hasan will continue at the network as a fill-in host and analyst. The cancellation follows Hasan’s controversial comments in the past and his recent criticism of Israel during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. MSNBC sees this as a positive move for the network and an opportunity to continue building on their accomplishments.
