MSNBC segment turns chaotic: Fresh Menendez allegations emerge as his daughter guest-hosts
MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” Gets Awkward as New Allegations Surface Against Senator Robert Menendez
A Tuesday segment on MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” took an unexpected turn when Alicia Menendez, the daughter of embattled Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), was guest-hosting the show.
As Alicia Menendez filled in for regular host Nicolle Wallace, she teased a breaking news update just before a commercial break. “We have to take a quick break. And we’ll be back with some breaking news right after this,” she announced.
However, when the show returned, MSNBC host Ari Melber was in the anchor’s chair to deliver the news.

“Hello, I’m Ari Melber with some breaking legal news,” Melber announced. “New Jersey United States Sen. Robert Menendez now facing new allegations in a second superseding indictment which was filed by a federal grand jury from his DOJ prosecution.”
According to a report by New York ABC News affiliate WABC on Tuesday, a second superseding indictment against Senator Menendez alleges that he accepted “luxury watches” and other valuable items in exchange for speaking positively about Qatar.
The indictment quotes co-defendant Fred Daibes asking Menendez, “How about one of these?” and subsequently sending the senator a photo of the watches, which ranged in value from $10,000 to $24,000.
Just two days later, on September 29, 2021, Daibes messaged Menendez again, this time regarding a Senate resolution showing support for Qatar. At the time, Daibes was also involved in a real estate deal with the Qatari Investment Company.
Senator Menendez has already faced charges of bribery and “acting as a foreign agent” in relation to his dealings with Egypt.
Alicia Menendez, addressing the scandal involving her father, stated that while her network would continue to cover the news, she would not be reporting on the legal case herself.
“I will not be reporting on the legal case. That said, my colleagues across MSNBC and NBC News have aggressively covered this story, and they’ll continue to do so, as they should,” she clarified.
What were the new allegations against Senator Menendez that prevented Alicia Menendez from delivering the breaking news herself?
F “Deadline White House,” Alicia Menendez, the guest host and daughter of Senator Robert Menendez, had teased a breaking news update. However, when the show returned from the commercial break, Ari Melber was in the anchor’s chair instead of Alicia Menendez.
The sudden change in the anchor raised questions among the viewers as to why Alicia Menendez did not deliver the breaking news herself. It was later revealed that the change was due to new allegations surfacing against Senator Menendez.
These new allegations against Senator Menendez come at a time when he is already facing legal troubles. In 2017, he was charged with bribery and corruption, but the case ended in a mistrial. However, the Department of Justice announced their intent to retry the case.
The recent allegations add to the existing legal problems faced by Senator Menendez. It is unclear what these allegations specifically entail, but they have certainly caused an awkward situation on the set of “Deadline White House.”
The choice to have Ari Melber deliver the news instead of Alicia Menendez, who is directly connected to the Senator, was a strategic move by MSNBC. By having a neutral anchor present the update, the network aims to maintain journalistic integrity and avoid any perceived bias.
Senator Menendez has consistently denied all allegations against him and has maintained his innocence throughout the legal process. However, with these new allegations emerging, his reputation and political career may face further challenges.
It is important to note that as of now, the specifics of the new allegations are not yet known. The public will have to wait for more information to surface in order to fully understand the impact they may have on Senator Menendez’s future.
In the meantime, “Deadline White House” will likely continue to cover the story as it unfolds. The show has always been known for its in-depth political analysis and news updates, and this latest development will undoubtedly be a topic of interest for their viewers.
As the legal proceedings progress and more information becomes available, the public will have a clearer understanding of the implications these new allegations may have on Senator Menendez and his political career. Until then, ”Deadline White House” will continue to be a place where viewers can stay informed and engaged with the latest political news.
