MTG appears to side with ‘white, male, christian’ leak suspect over Biden administration

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared to defend the “white, male, christian” individual who allegedly leaked classified documents from the Pentagon. In a tweet, Greene claimed that Jack Teixeira, the suspect arrested in connection to the leak, is an “enemy” of the White House due to his demographic. Teixeira is a 21-year-old cyber transport systems journeyman for the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

The FBI arrested Teixeira in Dighton, Massachusetts, on Thursday without incident. The documents that were leaked revealed United States intelligence regarding both sides of the war in Ukraine and uncovered uncomfortable truths about the U.S.’s relationships with allies, including Israel and South Korea. The Defense Department and allied countries have claimed that some of the documents have been altered.

Democrats, such as Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA), blasted Greene for her statement on Teixeira, claiming that his skin color, religion, and gender do not give him license to “betray his country.” The Justice Department has indicated that Teixeira could be charged with violating the Espionage Act.

Greene’s supporters argue that her defense of Teixeira is based on the conviction that the Biden administration is waging war in Ukraine, a non-NATO nation, against nuclear Russia without war powers. They also recall Representative Swalwell’s comment that Republicans who do not support gun bans are siding with the “killers” because of their lack of action when it comes to gun control.
