Multiple NYPD Officers Stabbed During New Year’s Eve Celebrations
Multiple New York City Police A suspect holding a machete and stabbing officers was just blocks away from New Year’s Eve festivities in Times Square.
According to FOX News, the incident took place at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue around 10 p.m. on Saturday. A source from New York Fire Department confirmed this to FOX.
Two officers were injured in the stabbing incident. One of the victims was a rookie cop who was starting his career.

A second officer was also struck by the weapon, but was not seriously hurt. Both officers were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

According to the New York Post, Trevor Bickford, 19, from Maine was identified as the suspect. Police shot him in the shoulder after the stabbings. He was then taken to the hospital.
A news conference was held by police, where they stated that the suspect approached officers unprovoked. Federal law enforcement is still investigating the incident.
“I want to be clear that the FBI, through the Joint Terrorism Task Force, is working very closely with [NYPD] to determine the nature of this attack,” Michael Driscoll, FBI Director, spoke at the news conference. “And we will run every lead to ground. I also want to be very clear, as you’ve heard said tonight previously, this is very much an ongoing investigation so our ability to talk about specifics is limited.”

A police car struck another officer as he tried to move the barricades in order to give the suspect access to responding officers.
“The three officers were attacked today, they were doing their jobs,” Eric Adams, mayor of New York City, spoke at the news conference. “The jobs that members of the New York City Police Department and other first responders in law enforcement officers do every day.”
“And as we do a preliminary review of the body cam video, we see how well these officers executed the plan that was put in place by the New York City Police Department in ensuring we protect those who came here to bring in a new year,” He continued.
Adams stated that all three officers are stable. Adams also stressed that there is no active threat.
